Film Discussion: The Public - Starring Emilio Estevez
Consider the always evolving role of the public library in Emilio Estevez’s movie The Public where an act of civil disobedience turns into a standoff with police when homeless people in Cincinnati take over the public library to seek shelter from the bitter cold. Within the walls of The Public, we see manifested issues not just of homelessness, but of race, class, addiction, mental illness and income inequality.
